UV-C is short-wavelength ultraviolet light used in germicidal lamps. The PROLUX G lamps we supply, made by Nexa s.r.o. in Slovakia, use radiation at a wavelength of 253.7 nm to treat surfaces and air.
How a UV-C lamp is used
The lamp is switched on, treats the surfaces or air exposed to its light, and is then switched off. UV-C complements cleaning and ventilation. It does not replace them.
The main types of UV-C lamp
- Surface lamps: fixed or portable lamps for surfaces in empty rooms, from compact 18 W units to 72 W models.
- Surface and air lamps: mobile units that treat the air and surfaces of an empty room. Some models also treat air while people are present.
- Indoor air lamps: designed to treat room air with people present, such as the PROLUX G 30WA.
- In-duct and AC lamps: fitted inside air handling units and ducts, mounted so that no one is exposed to the light.
Open lamps and enclosed lamps
An open lamp lights the whole space, so it is for unoccupied rooms only. Lamps built into an AC unit or duct keep the light inside the equipment. Read our guide to using UV-C safely before you buy.
Where UV-C lamps are used
Air conditioning and ducts, hospitals and clinics, laboratories and commercial kitchens, schools, offices, shops and malls, hotels and restaurants, transport depots, homes and mosques. See UV-C solutions by application or browse all UV-C disinfection devices.
