A first aid kit only helps if the right items are inside, within their expiry dates, and easy to reach. What your workplace needs depends on the number of staff, the type of work and the hazards involved. Check the requirements that apply to your sector and emirate with the relevant authority.
How many kits does a workplace need?
There is no single answer. A small office may manage with one well-stocked kit, while a larger site, a workshop or a business with vehicles will usually need several, placed where people actually work. As a rule of thumb, nobody should have to walk far or climb stairs to reach one.
What a kit commonly includes
- Sterile dressings, bandages and adhesive plasters in several sizes
- Antiseptic wipes and sterile saline or eyewash
- Disposable gloves and a CPR face shield
- Scissors, tweezers and safety pins
- Burn dressings and a triangular bandage
- An emergency blanket and a printed first aid guide
Extras to consider by workplace
| Workplace | Items often added |
|---|---|
| Office | Extra plasters and dressings, instant cold packs, a printed emergency contact list |
| Workshop or site | Larger dressings, burn gel or burn dressings, eyewash, eye pads, heavy-duty gloves |
| Vehicles | Compact kit, emergency blanket, gloves, a torch and a reflective item |
| Kitchen or canteen | Blue waterproof plasters, burn dressings, cold packs |
How to keep it ready
- Assign one person to check each kit regularly and record the date.
- Replace used or expired items straight away.
- Keep kits visible, clearly signed and away from heat and moisture.
- Place extra kits in vehicles, workshops and other higher-risk areas.
- Make sure staff know where the kits are and who is trained in first aid.
Do you need an AED?

Where many people work together or the public visits, an automated external defibrillator (AED) with staff training can be a valuable addition to your emergency plan. An AED needs to be easy to reach, checked regularly, and its pads and battery replaced before they expire. Ask us about options and training.
Frequently asked questions
How often should a first aid kit be checked?
Check it on a regular schedule, for example monthly, and straight after any use. Record the date and replace anything used or expired.
Should company vehicles have a first aid kit?
It is good practice, especially for vehicles used by several people or for long journeys. Choose a compact kit and check it with the rest of your kits.
Do staff need first aid training as well?
A kit helps most when people know how to use it. Ask the relevant authority which training applies to your sector, and train more than one person per shift.
Do AED pads and batteries expire?
Yes. Pads and batteries have expiry dates, so include the AED in your regular checks and replace them on time.
Can you quote for several kits or for a whole site?
